How to bid in an auction at Dorotheum Prague?
If you wish to take part in an auction at Dorotheum Prague, you will have several options to choose from:
You can bid in person, by phone or in writing.
If you wish to bid by phone or in writing, you will be required to fill in and sign the enclosed Power of Attorney form. This form must be sent by post or fax prior to the auction date (please remember to fill in both pages!) to Dorotheum, Ovocný trh 2, Prague 1, or to fax no. 00420 224 222 011. The Power of Attorney must reach Dorotheum Prague no later than 3 hours before the beginning of the auction.
In the said form it is required to specify the method and date of payment and the method of transport. The services you ask for will be provided by our company at your own expense, including the compliance with the customs procedures on the territory of the Czech Republic. We do not provide any services related to the compliance with the customs and tax procedures on the territory of your country.
If you bid by phone, you must specify your phone number and indicate whether you wish to communicate with our staff in the German, English or Czech language.
The price attained in the auction will be increased by a flat fee of 20%.
If you choose to participate in person, we recommend that you appear at the auction venue (Kongresový sál ČNB, Senovážné náměstí 30, 110 00 Praha 1) well in advance, i.e. at least thirty minutes before the beginning of the auction. Prior to the auction, you must collect an auction number which will be issued to you at the venue after completing the Application and Affidavit of Participant of Voluntary Public Auction form and against the presentation of your valid passport. You will be also required to pay a refundable deposit of CZK 1,000 for the auction number, which will be returned to you after the auction.
The auction itself is conducted in the Czech language, with the exception of the opening and some important instructions at the beginning of the auction. The auctioned items are presented in the auction hall on monitors, along with bid increases expressed in CZK and EUR. The amounts in EUR are approximate only (i.e. rounded). The price attained in the auction hall will be increased by a flat fee of 20% .
If you achieve the winning bid on your desired item, you will pay the price attained in the auction right on the spot to the cash register. You may pay in cash in Czech crowns or in Euros or by credit card (VISA, Master Card, AMEX). In the case you don't collect the paid items on the auction date in person and you for example wish to have them transported to a specific address or to Dorotheum Vienna, or simply wish us to arrange for an export permit, leave your contact details and our staff will be contacting you on the next following business day. Dorotheum Prague will provide these services to you at your own expense, including the compliance with the customs procedures on the territory of the Czech Republic. We do not provide any services related to the compliance with the customs and tax procedures on the territory of your country.
Note: Items listed in the catalogue with the * mark have been declared as cultural monuments and are banned from export.
Considering the currently applicable statutory provisions, problems with export may also arise in the case of some other items. Therefore, if you wish to bid for an item and, subsequently, export it abroad, we recommend that you contact our Customer Service Department to obtain more information.
